ISAIAH 61:10 reads, 'I will greatly rejoice in the Lord. My soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with jewels. '

As guests at a wedding, everyone waits to see the beautiful bride. She mostly wears a beautiful, white gown, while the bride's mother selects a fitting outfit. Prior to the wedding, the bride and mothers of the bride and bridegroom have consulted what they shall wear. They chose the colour with everything matching it. If the bride's basic colour is blue, then her accessories, such as hat, gloves, shoes handbag, will tone in with it. Many hours were spent deciding that basic colour and style.

God has already chosen a heavenly garment for us. We cannot make it ourselves, for He has already fashioned it. Nor do we need a human dress-maker or designer, for it already exists.

When we turn from our sin and receive the Lord Jesus as our Saviour, the Lord Jesus covers us with His righteousness. God the Father looks at us, and sees us only in the Lord Jesus. We are wearing the perfect robe of His righteousness. God does not see our imperfect lives, but looks at us through the Lord Jesus. Our bodily coverings are laundered frequently for cleansing; but the robe of Christ's righteousness, given by God when we belong to the Saviour, cannot be spoiled. Christ is our spiritual robe.

His righteousness is a wonderful, covering garment.
