A MUSTARD SEED HAS NO LIMIT.
While
the mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds, it matures at one and a quarter
metres high. As the mustard seed
germinates rapidly, Jesus likened it to the growth of His kingdom, which
includes all Christians. From small
beginnings of ones and twos, who trusted in Jesus, His kingdom grew to millions
of believers.
Our
Lord also talked to His followers to encourage them to grow in faith, by
reading the good seed of God’s Word. Then trusting God’s Spirit-Helper, who
enables us to understand Jesus’ stories of His love.
In
Colombia, a widowed Grandmother Dona
Lola and her faith grew like a mustard seed. A gift copy of Stanley Tam’s book,
‘God owns my busines,’ set her wondering how she could use an English book,
which she could not read,
Undaunted,
Dona Lola took the book to her doctor, asking him to read her a chapter. He read about the gospel and God’s exciting
miracles in Stanley Tam’s life. At her next appointment, the doctor read
another chapter for her. Bravely, this widow asked nurses, government workers
and labourers, or anyone to read to her.
Her seed-faith grew like a tree as she watched many receive Jesus Christ
as Saviour.
Lots
of names were written in the Lamb’s book of life because of the mustard-seed
faith of dear Dona Lola.
Faith
grows from good seed, which germinates with sun and rain, pushing the seed
through the brown earth. The plant grows and the tree becomes a refuge for
singing birds. So is the life of a believer.
What
did Jesus mean when He said we are to have faith to remove mountains? How do we remove mountains, which speak of
obstacles?
Isaiah
said, ‘The Sovereign Lord ha given me an instructed tongue, to know the word
that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to
listen like one being taught. ‘
Isaiah’s ears were ready for listening, and he was not rebellious to God’s
instructions. ‘ ( Isaiah 50:4,5 ) He
soaked himself in God’s truth, and the seed of faith so grew that he was not
afraid to deliver God’s message, whether of judgment, encouragement, or hope to Israel - and to us. His mustard-seed faith took hold of God‘s
promises. We, too, can follow his example when we apply ourselves to the
regular study of the bible, receiving by faith the promises.
Ladies
from various denominations in our bible
study group shared how our faith has grown in studying and sharing the
Scriptures. I thanked God on seeing their seed-faith grow, their total trust
and hope being in the Lord. Family problems were resolved; a neighbour released
from enslaving fear; widows were comforted; needs met; courage stirred after a distressing
accident; hopeless situations resolved; loved ones converted.
Mountains?
Seemingly insuperable, they were moved by faith in God on the authority of the
good seed. Often ladies said, ‘I need
more faith’ or ‘I wish I had faith’.
Faith is the gift of God, growing when we apply the good seed of His
Word.
Denis
and Gladys Trimmer lived in a Javanese village., where Wenti, their
servant-helper, heard the gospel from these sincere Christians. Wenti believed
in the Lord Jesus Christ , but, shy and scared, she did not tell others about
Jesus.
During
the crowded Easter services, Mr Trimmer explained the sacrifice of the Lord
Jesus Christ as the substitute for our sins. He kindly invited anyone to
publicly acknowledge their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by coming
and standing with him.
However,
Wenti sat in the back seat with young Ronny, the four year old son of the
Trimmers. When his father invited
interested ones, Ronny walked confidently to the front before the crowd of
people, showing he had asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be his Saviour. As Wenti
watched her little friend, her seed-faith leaped in that moment. She thought, ‘If he is brave enough to walk
out in front of all these people, so am I.’
Wenti followed Ronny, standing beside him, so affirming her willingness
to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ronny’s faith challenged Wenti.
God has no
limits with a mustard seed.
