A MILLION FIREFLIES.
While driving
home late one night, the car began to cough and splutter. Well, that is how it
sounded to us, tired and anxious to get our children safely home to bed.
But the car
suddenly stopped. There we were, out on
a lonely country road, in a foreign country, with no one to help us; nor garage
to repair the car. And it was pitch
black.
Suddenly, one
of our tired children shouted, ‘Look!’
Out over the
rice fields, at eleven o’clock at night, were millions of tiny, little
fireflies, darting here and there, bobbing in and out, as though they were
chasing one another for fun. What a
lovely sight. Each little body flashed a tiny light. While each firefly’s light
was minute, together millions of fireflies twinkled, lighting up the whole
countryside. Yes, we marvelled at the phosphorescent glow of the fireflies.
By the light of
the fireflies and torchlight, we readily repaired the car, allowing us to drive
again, looking back for our last glimpse of the darting, bobbing, twinkling fireflies.
When our car
lights went out, we were left in the dark.
But the Lord is called the Light of the world. Why? Because His light will never go out. Nor
will He ever cease from being the Light of the world. Indeed, He lightens every
dark area of our lives. Sometimes we are
sad, or worried. Jesus our light shows
us how to act. The Bible, too, is a light, pointing us to Jesus.
I’m so glad
that Jesus is the Light of my life. Is
that how you feel, too?
In John 8 verse
12 Jesus said, ‘I am the Light of the world: and in Me is no darkness.’
