THE MARVEL OF OUR BONES

The growth factor in the brain determines the development of the bones of the unborn child, as well as that of the entire body. Centres of ossification, or bone formation, appear as early as the fourth week after conception. A baby is born with 230 bones, which is amazing when you consider the size of a baby.
God marvellously programmed the bones and their design at creation.

Regardless of our age, the strength and adaptability of our bones control our mobility. Consider how the bones and joints of your fingers and thumb enable you to turn the pages of this paper.

In doing so, the joint movement of the finger bones assists the turning of each page, while the hand bones allow the finger movements. The elbow movement allows the wrist, hand and fingers to act, while the shoulder activates the whole upper arm. We take for granted these refined bony movements that are so creatively designed that we move almost without perception.

Simultaneously, we breathe with our 12 ribs expanding and contracting with each breath; while the vertebrae or spinal bones maintain the erect stance of our body; while we perform refined hand and leg movements. . The shin bones stabilise us when we are sitting, while the thigh bones and feet ensure our balance. All play their part. No wonder David said, 'We are fearfully and wonderfully made.'

Job said, 'You have clothed us with skin and flesh, and have fenced me with bones and sinews.' (10:11) Job validates creation, and the marvellous works of God.
Later, he wrote, 'His body is well nourished, his bones rich with marrow. 'How did Job know the significance of 'bones rich with marrow?' He was no haematologist.
His Creator the foundation ONE.

The marrow in the bone produces the red blood cells, conveying oxygen to every cell of the body, and transporting carbon dioxide to be exhaled from the lungs, while the white blood cells police the body against infection, lest our physical function be disrupted. Job acknowledges God's perfect creation; and so should we.

One writer explains, 'Bones are the most durable part of the human body, and in Scripture bones describe the deepest feelings, affections, and affiliations', which probably gave rise to the saying,' I can feel it in my bones.' Old Testament characters desired their bones to be buried near their departed family members; which practice many still maintain.

Despite the Lord Jesus' intense, agonising suffering on the cross, with all HIS bones out of joint, indicating dislocation of the 206 adult bones, not one of His bones was broken. How remarkable that HIS bones were perfectly preserved, through that unparalleled suffering.

To me, God speaks of bones in their strength, mobility, activity, and service. Only the power of God kept the Lord Jesus, Who keeps us and strengthens us for His service.

The marrow within the bones of our Lord speak of the regenerating power He gives to withstand the invasion of evil, which surrounds us.

We must teach our children, and our grandchildren, and Sunday school scholars the wonders of our body's bones, and the significant Scripture verses mentioned here; and the lessons learned from the wonder of the bones in our body.

'HE MADE EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN HIS TIME.'
