SHOES:HOW ARE YOUR’S?

Read Ephesians 5:1,8,15.

‘Walk in love, just as Christ loved us, and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.   Ephesians 5: 2 ( KJV )

Our eldest daughter and I received an invitation to a women’s reception for the wife of the President of Indonesia. For such an occasion we planned our party clothes and shoes, instead of the open sandals usually worn in our village home.

I unlocked the storeroom to open the case containing my best shoes.  Pushing aside the clothes, I drew out my shoes.

‘Oh, Mum’, exclaimed our daughter, who was to accompany me. ‘You cannot wear them.’ We gasped at the shoes, which were covered with grey, hairy mould.

As he heard our chatter, my husband walked in.  Seeing the horrible mess, he took the shoes from me, and found a cloth to wipe off the mould, Then using liquid cleaner, he kindly restored the shoes to their shiny condition, now suitable for the special event.

After the enjoyable reception to meet Madame President, I regularly checked my shoes to avoid hindering my preparation for future important occasions.

Paul always urged his Ephesian friends to walk and live in a pure, holy, and loving life to honour their Lord. As we follow their example, our spiritual shoes enable us to meet and help people, waiting to hear God’s good news of salvation and peace.   Paul walked to visit towns where his life and stories of Jesus blessed and encouraged people.

God always uses ordinary people whom He guides in helping someone in their daily walk through lfe.  With God’s help we walk with clean shoes ( heart and life ) in the right direction, so that in our actions we become as a sweet perfume to our God.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, help me to live in such a caring way

That I will bless someone who longs to hear about your love.

May my spiritual shoes be clean, and not contaminated

By the mould of sin or any unholy act.

Help me to follow Christ’s example as I walk with Him,

And follow in His steps.

THOUGHT

Shoes are not to be hidden away to collect mould,

But to set my feet in the path of helping others.
