Turn on the light.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I heard the usual sound of our car, and I knew that
the Doctor’s long day was over at last.
Quickly I took up a little kerosene lamp, ran to the front door, and
opened it. The little light shone on the pathway, cheering a tired man, and
lighting my way too.
The light was so dim, that you would have thought it no use to anyone. The night was dark. There were no stars in the sky. No lights in the street. Yet that one little light shone like a beacon in the inky darkness. Yes, one little light.
The Doctor drove the car into the garage, and then
hurried to the steps leading into the house. Just as he came forward, a large
wasp flew over, and knocked the little light out of my hands, startling me.
‘Oh, the light has gone out.‘ I was so disappointed. Not only had the wasp
knocked the light from my hand, but the lamp had crashed to the ground, breaking into a hundred, small pieces. It was of no use at all. Calling to our servant, Dumarto, I said, ‘
Please bring me another light.’ He quickly brought me a light, and oh, I was so
relieved.
You know this world is like a dark night. There is so much wickedness and wrong
living. Jesus has put you there as one
of HIS shining lights.
Sometimes, we forget to shine. ‘I don’t believe the Bible.’ ‘I don’t care
if I get angry and bad-tempered.’ ‘I’m not going to Sunday School today‘ ’I’m
not going to read my Bible today.’ ’I’m
not going to tell Joan or Bill about the rally.’ You could think of other
things that would put your light out.
If you are saying these things, you are letting sin (
which is like the wasp ) knock the shining light out of your life. But let your light shine, and always be
Jesus’ shining light.
My life is like a
candle bright,
For Jesus it must
shine.
But if I let some sin
get in,
That’s light no longer
mine.
Then darkness comes and
lives in me,
Bringing dark to
others, too,
So I must let my candle
shine,
And burn the whole day
through.
‘Let your light so shine before men that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16
