MINDING THE SHEEP.
When
Moses minded his father’s sheep
(In the hot desert tended the flock)
Everyone thought it a dry, weary place,
And some even started to mock.
But
one day while Moses was watching the lambs,
Beside a green, shady rill,
He took a few lambs to find more juicy food,
And eventually he came to a hill.
As
Moses watched over his father’s large flocks,
A bush nearby started to burn,
And a heavenly voice spoke to Moses himself.
It was God’s voice as Moses soon learned.
Although
it was glowing, the bush did not burn,
While God’s voice sounded, clear as a bell,
‘Take your shoes off your feet, Moses, my son,
For I’ve something important to tell.’
‘For
forty years now you have cared for the sheep,
And learned many lessons,
I know.So you are to be a servant for me,
As to the king’s place you go.
Tell
Pharoah, King of Egypt, who is still on the throne,
That he must set Israel free,
For he’s making slaves of my chosen race,
Please deliver this message from Me. ‘
Now
many excuses, at first, Moses made,
But at last he obeyed God’s command,
And after some hard and difficult times,
Led the Israelites out of the land.
Out
of Egypt, through the Red Sea, through dry wilderness,
Moses led Israel, quite a large crowd,
Till Moses, on Mt. Nebo’s great high peak,
Was taken to heaven by God.
