THE MAN WHO BUILT A BOAT.
Though
Noah was an old man,
He was God’s own choice
To preach to all the people
As though he was God’s voice.
God
told His faithful servant
The people must repent
And turn from their wicked ways
Before a flood was sent.
Of
course no-one believed him,
Nor thought that God would send
A flood to drown the people
Who lived within the land.
God
told Noah, ‘Build a boat!’
His sons each helped their dad,
For Noah knew the flood would come –
Just as his God had said.
The
people laughed and teased him, too,
But Noah laboured on,
He told the wicked people
Of punishment ere long
T’was
one hundred and twenty years
Before the work was done;
Noah called for his family
And took them all along.
Every
kind of bird and beast
Noah took in at last;
When each one was safe aboard
God shut the door quite fast.
God
send down torrents of rain
Upon that wicked land;
It rained and kept on raining
Till none of them could stand.
The
rain continued falling
For forty nights and days,
So that all the people left
Felt sorry for their ways.
They
knew it was too late then –
They remembered Noah’s word,
And wished they had repented
As they Noah’s warning heard.
While
Noah sailed in safety
Inside the ark so strong,
The wicked and the scornful
Were drowned before too long.
Now
when the flood was over
The water drained away,
Noah and his family
Stepped from the ark to pray.
They
stood by a pile of stones
With a lamb for sacrifice;
They prayed and thanked the Lord –
Praised Him with cheerful voice.
While
the family beheld,
A rainbow arched the sky,
God’s promise that never again
Would flood the world destroy.
Now
when you see the rainbow,
Just think of God above,
Who must punish wickedness,
Yet wants to show His love.
So
turn from any sinful acts,
And live for God each day,
And trust in Jesus Christ the Lord
And always walk His way.
