ESTHER, THE FAITHFUL QUEEN. Gwenda steward

Young Esther was a beautiful girl
Who lived in Persia’s court –
So sweet and fair and kind to all,
Who by the king was sought.

When Haman planned to kill the Jews
Queen Esther knelt to pray.
She wept and went without her food
For many a weary day.

Her heart was sad for Mordecai,
( Her uncle), and the Jews,
That noble race from which she came,
And whom she knew God chose.

Queen Esther to the Banquet Hall
Invited Haman proud,
And Ahasuerus, Persia’s king,
To whom Queen Esther bowed.

O, worthy king, please spare my life,
And all the Jewish race,
For Haman, proud and wicked man,
Who stands before your face. .

Desires in his heart to kill
The Jew named Mordecai,
And even now, outside the gate,
Stands Haman’s gallows so high.

The king was angry and with loud shout,
When he saw the gallows high,
Said, ‘ If he has planned this evil plot,
Thereon shall Haman die.’

Proud Haman met his just reward
As what he sowed he reaped.
His foolish pride now cost his life,
While the Jews were safely kept.

‘To this kingdom you have surely come
For such a time as this,’
To Esther said Uncle Mordecai,
No wiser words than his.

Remember Esther, the wise young Queen,
Who came upon the throne,
Just at the very moment when
She pleaded for her own.
