ARMS THAT ARE STRONG. Gwenda Steward

After months living on the hot plains in Java we anticipated our visit to the mountains. From the little home where we stayed we knew it would not be long before the children invaded the swimming pool at the holiday resort. The pool looked so cool and inviting, and the children soon changed into their bathing clothes, and ran along the edge of the tiled pool. Under the tropical sun’s rays the water sparkled in a deep blue.

One by one father, mother, John, Ruth, Judith and Miriam dived into the water, all except the youngest who waited on the side until her father swam over to lift her into the deep water.

Patiently she watched her brother and sisters splashing in the cold, refreshing water, and waited for her father to come and lift her in.

But as the fair-haired toddler, Elisabeth, waited for her Dad to reach her, she walked two steps along the edge of the shiny tiles. Alas, she slipped and fell into the pool.

The visitors from different nations, who had already enjoyed a swim, were now sitting in the shade beside the pool. They screamed as she fell in.

However, in a moment her father was there with his arms to lift her out of the water, and she came out laughing and shaking her wet, curly head. It could have been a nasty accident, but how relieved we were that father’s strong arms lifted her out of trouble, almost before she realised she had toppled in. Father saved her.

God is our loving heavenly father, Whom we safely trust. The bible tells us a delightful picture-story of God as a Father, Whose loving arms wait to help us, whether we are in danger, or trouble, or for the provision of our daily needs.

Remember, you can call to God at any time of the day or night. I have a friend who had some sad trouble, but she prayed at 5 o’clock in the morning. She told me how she then felt as though she was being wrapped or held in God’s loving care. Isn’t that beautiful.

Call out His name, because God promised to hear you and help you at all times.

‘The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms, and He will drive out the enemy before you.’ ( Deuteronomy 33:27)

Trust God He is always near

To keep you from danger and fear.

He is loving, kind and good,

He cares for you, supplies your food.

He is waiting to help every one

Who trusts and follows His dear Son.
