JONAH AND THE BIG FISH.

Here is the story of one called Jonah

To whom God gave a task,

He sent him over to Nineveh

And said that he must go fast.

A wicked city was Nineveh

So Jonah there was sent

To tell thousands of people that

God said they must repent.

But Jonah was disobedient,

He did not want to go.

He went in the opposite direction,

And thought that God would not know.

But God is all-wise, and all-seeing-

On a boat he saw Jonah embark,

And whilst His servant was sleeping,

God sent a storm to shake that craft.

The sailors soon were angry.

They said it was Jonah’s fault.

They dragged him from his cosy bed,

And Jonah knew he’d been caught.

The sailors threw him overboard,

‘We’ll get rid of this man,’ they said.

But they had not thought about Jonah’s God

When they hurled him out of his bed.

Before Jonah sank in the cold, stormy sea,

A great big fish appeared,

And swallowed the disobedient man,

And then Jonah certainly feared.

While Jonah rested inside the great fish,

He really had time to repent.

He was sorry he disobeyed his God,

By running from where he’d been sent.

He feared the God Who made sea and dry land,

He longed to get to the shore.

After three days as it neared the beach,

The great fish opened its jaw-

And vomited Jonah out on dry land.

Oh, he was happy in his heart.

He immediately knew what he should do,

And to reach Nineveh made his start.

Jonah preached to the people in the large town

God’s message he boldly spoke,

And warned them to turn from their wicked ways,

Before Nineveh went up in smoke.

Now God helped Jonah to preach there,

So he spoke God’s truth without fear,

Till all the people turned from their sin,

As God’s word they were glad to hear.

Now God wants us all to obey Him

And go where He commands.

For some, He may want you to tell of His love

To the people  in far-off lands,

Who have never heard of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Who died on the cross for our sin.

Then tell all your friends of His wonderful love,

And the lost to Jesus win.
